Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation. Through collaboration with industry leaders, governments, NGOs, and technology providers, SFC develops practical solutions that accelerate freight decarbonization across road, rail, ocean, and aviation sectors. The Fleet Electrification Coalition (FEC) supports companies and policymakers in scaling zero-emission freight vehicles and the infrastructure needed to enable their deployment.

✏️ About the position:

Position Summary
We seek a motivated Road Freight Electrification Intern to support our growing Fleet Electrification Program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in zero-emission trucks, charging infrastructure, freight decarbonization, data analysis, and industry research. The successful candidate will work closely with experts and the program team to support ongoing projects, stakeholder engagement activities, and the development of technical resources for the road freight sector. This role is ideal for a recently graduated (Master) student interested in sustainable transport, electric mobility, engineering, energy systems, logistics, climate policy, or environmental sciences.

⭐ Here’s an idea of what tasks you might be working on:


Program & Project Support
  • Assist with project coordination and administrative activities that support the FEC and related road freight initiatives.
  • Support meeting preparation, note-taking, action tracking, workplans, timelines, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate team meetings and help maintain shared calendars, documents, and task-management systems.
  • Implement digital tools and optimize workflows using available systems such as Salesforce, SharePoint, MS Office, and relevant AI-enabled tools. 
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Support engagement with FEC members, project partners, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with webinars, in-person workshops, working-group meetings, communications, educational content, and event preparation.
  • Prepare invitations, agendas, presentations, background materials, and follow-up communications.
  • Support facilitation, documentation, and knowledge capture during meetings and events.
Communications & Knowledge Sharing
  • Contribute to newsletters, website updates, member communications, and other outreach materials.
  • Support the editing and preparation of technical and non-technical content.
  • Help design and analyse surveys and organize feedback to improve FEC activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across SFC to ensure road freight electrification activities align with broader organizational goals.
Research, Technical & Analytical Support
  • Conduct research and carry out analysis on battery-electric trucks, charging infrastructure, grid integration, total cost of ownership, freight emissions, and emerging industry trends.
  • Support analysis relating to FEC projects and emerging road freight electrification initiatives.
  • Collect, clean, organize, and analyse data from public sources, project partners, surveys, and stakeholder inputs.
  • Prepare presentations, dashboards, data visualizations, briefing notes, and summary reports for external stakeholders and internal audiences.
  • Contribute to the development of practical tools, guidance, and knowledge resources that support the deployment of electric trucks.
  • Help maintain accurate stakeholder and contact information in Salesforce and other relevant systems.


Ideal candidate

Required (minimum)

  • Recently graduated in a Master’s degree in Sustainable Transport, Transport & Logistics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Analytics, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and willingness to learn new digital tools.

It would be great if you also have ...

  • An interest in road freight electrification, zero-emission vehicles, sustainable logistics, and climate change.
  • Experience with research projects, data analysis, modelling, or technical writing.
  • Familiarity with electric trucks, charging infrastructure, energy systems, fleet operations, logistics, transport, or environmental policy.
  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau, Python, GIS, or similar analytical tools.
  • Understanding of GHG Protocol, SBTi, EU transport and climate policy, or other relevant freight decarbonization frameworks.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement, event coordination, or project-management tools.
